It's Barcelona that is the main artery of the Spanish jazz scene, with major festivals and clubs like The Jamboree, several schools and academies and the Fresh Sounds New Talent label. Bassist Giulia Valle is an important fixture of all the above, and has made four CDs as leader for FSNT, the latest of which, Enchanted House, evinces both an individual composer and a gifted bassist. Barcelona's acknowledged  kinship with  the New York scene  and Valle's own  study sojourns with  musicians like Scott Colley percolate  through her  inclusive compositions  and plangent bass sound, though  other colours are here too,  drawn perhaps  from her  work with  leading   flamenco artists like singers Miguel Poveda and Mayte Martin. Her group for 12 Points! includes fellow Catalans Martí Serra (sax) Miguel "Pintxo" Villar (Sax), Sergi Sirvent (Pno, Rhodes, Tpt,) and David Xirgu (dms).
